He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California Davis and his D.D.S. degree from the University of California Medical Center, School of Dentistry, San Francisco. He then served four years on active duty with the U.S. Army in Europe. Upon his return to the United States, he entered the University of Nebraska Medical Center where he obtained his M.D. degree and completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency. Shortly thereafter, he became a board certified specialist through the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
